What we love
Utterly peaceful, stunning gardens and perfectly sized, this magical place expertly combines the old with the (super stylish) new, and does so perfectly.
Setting the scene
Costell Son Claret has been created with huge respect for the original buildings and with incredible expertise and attention to detail to make the most of the spectacular 325 acre estate and stunning location, missed with a huge dose of design talent. The interiors are beautiful and beautifully maximise the existing outbuildings and fabric of the castle - understated, sophisticated, contemporary and comfortable.
With just 38 rooms and suites at the hotel, there will always be just a relatively small number of guests at any one time, ensuring peace and privacy at all times. As the hotel is so sympathetic to the original buildings, all rooms are different and have their own unique features. Some offer a terrace, some a small garden and the 2 Deluxe Pool suites each offer a private pool and their own garden. The interiors are modern, stylish, elegant and supremely comfortable, and the bathrooms are wonderful.
Restaurant Zaranda has been awarded 1 Michelin star and offers incredible fine dining in a stunning setting - which in summer months includes eating al fresco in the magical ancient courtyard. Chef Fernando Perez Arellano uses local produce, much from the hotel's gardens, and produces a truly memorable gastronomic experience. Olivera is a more relaxed, all day dining restaurant and breakfast on the terrace here is a wonderful way to start any day. We especially loved the Castell Bar, which is in a former chapel in the heart of the hotel.
Essentially, this is a place for some serious relaxing! The gardens alone are an experience, and are large enough to lose yourself for as long as you'd like, even borrow a bike and cycle around the grounds, or try the 7km jogging trail around the estate. The beautiful, rural location belies how much there is to do in the local area - miles of sandy beaches can be found in the nearby South West of the island, and Palma (one of Europe's most beautiful and charming cities - bursting with culture, restaurants and shopping!) is just a 20 minute drive from the hotel. There are world-class golf courses a short distance away, and the buzzing marina towns of Puerto Portals and Andratx are also nearby.
There are no children's clubs or family programmes available here and the unique accommodation is more suited to couples. However, small children are welcomed and young families are commonplace here on the resort.
Palma airport is just a 30 minute drive away.
