What we love
Exclusive indulgence, inspired by royal Arabian palaces, the Shangri-La Al Husn Hotel makes you feel like royalty from the moment you step inside the doors. Effectively adults-only, it makes for the perfect romantic retreat.
Setting the scene
Al Husn, meaning 'the Castle' is one of three hotels that make up Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa and is the jewel in the crown of this collection. Authentic Arabian architecture and impeccable service makes it one of the finest hotels on the Arabian Pensinsula. With its own private beach and tranquil infinity pool, it's the perfect spot for a romantic retreat, yet with all the benefits of an extensive resort on its doorstep. The views of the dramatic mountain range and the Gulf of Oman's alluring waters add to the romantic ambience.
Spacious and luxurious, the 180 rooms are some of the largest in Oman. Thoughtfully designed in Arabian style, accentuated by local Omani artwork, the rooms vary by view - overlooking the courtyard and pool area or the turquoise blue sea. Guests can enjoy exclusive access to 100 metres of private beach and the hotel's infinity pool, as well as a complimentary mini-bar (which is constantly refilled), afternoon tea and pre-dinner cocktails and canape's service.
The great thing about Al Husn is that whilst it's an exclusive hotel, as part of the resort you have access to the fantastic choice at Shangri-La's numerous restaurants. Nevertheless, Al Husn has two fine dining restaurants of its own: Shahrazad offers an a la carte menu in a sophisticated restaurant reminiscent of a luxury cruise liner; Sultanah is Muscat's only Moroccan restaurant, dishing up authentic cuisine in a contemporary and refined setting. The Mahhara Beach Bar, adjacent to the hotel's private beach is for the exclusive use of Al Husn guests, a discreet venue for civilised drinks. Al Muheet offers the resort's most stylish and opulent poolside setting, with cocktails, health drinks and light snacks available.
The Shangri-La Bar Al Jissah Resort offers guests at its complex a wide variety of activities to enjoy. Six swimming pools, a lazy river and a fully equipped fitness centre with sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi will keep the most active entertained. The onsite PADI dive school makes the most of the tropical waters - try a sunset or sunrise dive to see the mesmerising marine life. There are a number of incredible dive sites nearby including 10 sites at the nearby island of Fahal and the wreck of the 84-metre vessel Al Munassir. Other sea sports include kayaking, snorkelling, dolphin watching trips and yacht sailing. Nature lovers will appreciate the Turtle Care Project, which was set up to help protect the region's endangered hawksbill and green turtles - something guests are encouraged to learn about. Then there's the holistic Chi, The Spa. Inspired by traditional Asian healing philosophies, treatments are offered specially tailored to suit guests' Yin/Yang balance. Free shuttles to Muttrah Souk and shopping areas are offered, and the nearby Omani Heritage Village is worth a look.
Al Husn is not recommended for children - in fact it specifically encourages adult only. However, at neighbouring Al Bandar and Al Waha, children can enjoy all the facilities including Lazy River, children's pool, play-room and aquatic play area. Children under 16 are not allowed access to the private beach or Al Husn pool.
