Incredible Honeymoon Destinations

You may have noticed that Pippa Middleton got married last weekend? If you didn’t spot this little snippet of news then it’s possible you were away on a digital detox holiday! As it happens Pippa and her new husband James have jetted off to spend the first part of their honeymoon at The Brando which is one of the exclusive destinations available to Oxford Private Travel clients. Arriving by light aircraft gives you the perfect vantage point to admire the verdant green of the islands forests in contrast to the deep coral blue sea, all framed by beautiful white sand beaches. We’d agree that this was an inspired choice and the perfect place to honeymoon! However, The Brando isn’t the only exclusive destination that we feel offers a sublime choice for newlyweds. If you’re about to tie the knot and in need of some inspiration for your honeymoon then read on!

Singita Sabi Sands, South Africa

Exclusivity is the watch word for Singita Sabi Sands. The Singita properties are located in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which borders the Western edge of the Kruger National Park and provides the perfect destination away from it all after your big day. Covering an incredible 33,000 acres, the reserve is vast, but the accommodation exclusive with just 6 private bedroom suites available. What better way to arrive than by private plane, which will land on the Singita Sabi Sand airstrip, saving you the drive from Johannesburg. The staff take an immense pride in maintaining the highest of standards, in a way that is sympathetic to the Reserve. This is important, as a key mission of Singita is to create and maintain a balance between conservation, community, development and ecotourism. The lodges have been built with this ideal in mind and integrate their philosophy of ‘touch the earth lightly’ into every aspect of their daily operations.

Two of the main attractions are the walks and drives through the reserve itself, hosted by an experienced guide. The daily game drives provide a perfect opportunity to get up close to Africa’s incredible animals. After a day out in the reserve, return to the lodge and enjoy fine dining complemented with a premium selection of wines selected from a wine list that has won numerous Awards of Excellence. Before retiring for the night, make sure you spend some time stargazing (that’s at the night sky, not at your partner!). With little pollution and no city lights your view of the heavens will be crystal clear. For more information on this amazing destination click here.

One of the many pleasures of a luxury holiday is eating in fine restaurants and Hotel Pitrizza doesn’t disappoint. Their main restaurant is positioned next to the hotels icon granite pool. Views of the dazzing Liscia di Vacca bay act as a backdrop to the restaurant. Enjoy refined and contemporary Mediterranean delicacies from a seasonal menu.

Out and about there is plenty to do with activities ranging from boating, fishing, kayaking and diving. Back on land the golf course and tennis courts provide some great entertainment and friendly competition between newlyweds! And for a more relaxing activity you’ll be pleased to hear the hotel has its own award winning beauty centre with a host of treatments available. Find out more about Hotel Pitrizza here.

Four Seasons Golden Triangle, Thailand

The Four Seasons name is synonymous with excellence and the Four Seasons Golden Triangle certainly lives up to expectations. If you’re looking for a romantic holiday in a truly special location then look no further. Bordering Burma and Laos, this is a destination with a difference. Forget staying within four ‘regular’ walls and get ready for a 3 or 4 day excursion to a luxury tented retreat for the experience of a lifetime.

Let’s start with the accommodation. Each ‘tent’ is about as far away from your traditional flimsy nylon structure as it’s possible to get! For starters, each beautifully appointed tent is individually decorated and located on a hillside with unparalleled vistas of the surrounding landscape. Complete with their own roll top bath and outdoor rainfall shower they really are the paragon of luxury with incredible attention given to each and every detail. This goes as far as NOT supplying a DVD player and radio so that guests can fully enjoy the exquisite sounds of nature in this very special environment. Don’t stress however as even in the depths of the Thailand countryside you are still able to access wireless high speed internet (we know that even on honeymoon it’s sometimes necessary to check the odd email!).

Dining is a key part of the camp’s activities and you will be able to share your dining experience with other guests in locations that vary from day to day. Breakfast is normally served at Nong Yao, the main restaurant whilst lunch may be a picnic in the jungle. Dinner is a special event in itself. As a romantic treat why not schedule a private dinner at the Wine Cellar? Amidst the 19th century rustic atmosphere, enjoy a selection of your favourite dishes paired with an impressive collection of international and Thai wines graced by Four Seasons impeccable service.

You’ll certainly not find yourself short of things to experience whilst staying at Four Seasons Golden Triangle. A whole range of unique activities can be organised from day trips to bustling markets or a lush royal garden. Back in the jungle get up close and personal with elephants living in their natural habitat. You can interact with these magnificent creatures and enjoy their individual personalities ranging from the brightly curious to mischievous! You can also accompany them on a guided trek through the jungle to experience your surroundings in a totally different way. Whatever you get up to we know this will be the ultimate holiday – a perfect honeymoon filled with memories and experiences. More information is available here.

Cocoa Island by COMO, Maldives

If you’ve never been to the Maldives then… go! A literal paradise awaits you on Cocoa Island located amongst South Malé’s coral atolls. Accessible via speedboat transfer from the international airport on Malé (the main island), this is the ultimate honeymoon destination.

The island is surrounded by spectacularly clear waters, with the land itself made up of live coral reefs and sandbars, making the natural ecosystem truly distinctive. Encircled with white sugar sand, the island is your base for a truly relaxing, luxurious experience. The perfect antidote to the busy excitement of your wedding!

You will stay in one of 33 overwater suites or a villa. Like that of no other luxury resort in the Maldives, they have been uniquely inspired by Dhoni boats – these are the gently curving wooden vessels used by local fishermen. The suites arc out from the island itself and are connected by simple wooden walkways. Each suite has a private terrace and even an outdoor shower. And make the most of the personal butler who is at your beck and call to organise all things from food to transport.

When you’ve settled in it’s time to enjoy a range of activities. Snorkelling is a great way to explore the beauty of the coral on which the island rests, or head deeper with some world class diving. Make sure you arrange for a sunset cruise which will offer you the chance to see dolphins at play. As you’d expect from such a peaceful destination, there is a superb spa and wellness centre which offers a range of treatments. They combine Asian-based therapies, nutrition, exercise and yoga to ensure you leave your holiday feeling rejuvenated!

Dining is a hugely pleasurable experience on Cocoa Island. The main restraint, Ufaa, offers modern, light Asian cuisine. They also mix some amazing cocktails – perfect to sip at as you watch the sun set from the restaurant terrace. And you must arrange for a private candlelit dining experience… a romantic experience and perfect for your honeymoon! More information on this fantastic destination can be viewed here.
